As the weather gets warmer and the sun gets brighter, everyone is breaking out their old hats. Unfortunately, we do not live in the 70’s anymore where a hat was worn with every outfit for a simple but elegant look. Fast forward around 50 years and we find ourselves asking….When exactly is the right time to wear a hat? I have taken the liberty of mapping out the “do’s and don’ts” of wearing a hat this season. Let’s take a look:
DO:
• Do add a leather cap to your wardrobe this summer. Pair it with a pair of leather flats/ sandals or pants and add some edge to your look.
•Do purchase a woven hat and pair with the perfect shade of blue jeans for a carefree summer look.
• Do wear a floppy hat with your dress or skirt this season. Have fun with it and match it to your other accessories!
•Do wear a loose top-fitting beanie with some skinny jeans on a chilly summer day. To give it a girly-er look, pair with some simple heels!
•Do look to baseball caps on lazy days. My favorite is pairing a black Nike baseball cap with high wasted leggings, a crop top, and Nike sneakers!
DONT:
• Don’t bring out your old superhero snapback this season.
• Don’t wear a hat that does not fit your head. Make sure you try on a hat before you purchase it.
• Don’t overcomplicate your outfit. If there is already a lot going on, let the outfit be! Grab a pair of neutral sunglasses instead.
• Don’t match your hat too closely with your outfit. While pairing a hat with the same color pants can be super cute, avoid too much of the same color. You do not want to drown yourself out!
• Don’t wear an all black outfit with an all black tight hat. You are trying to be stylish not look like a bank robber!
